What is IF

Several writers of the Bible refer to our life as a race. In the original Greek language the word used for race is agon… the same word we derive the word agony in the English language. If we put the metaphor, the word and its meaning together we find life, as it is lived, is often hard, difficult; if not down right painful.

The Ironman race which combines the three sports of swimming, cycling and running into a single event is a daunting task. Each segment or discipline is difficult by itself but the 2.4 miles of swimming, the 112 miles on the bike and a full marathon of 26.2 miles to run to the finish requires an entire day to complete. For the professional athletes it’s like a work day; eight hours or so but for the average person you begin at 7am and have until midnight to finish.

Life, like the race presents opportunities to learn something about yourself. It often finds us in times of despair, exhaustion and thoughts of giving up. It also, provides unusual surprises, joys, triumphs and personal victories. The key to finishing strong depends on a combination of purpose, planning and coaching. This sight will attempt to prepare you for that race…

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne. Hebrews 12:1,2 (NLT)
